IP Plane

The IP Plane Project is world-wide the first project at a university to build a real-life airplane only by students. This project is the core motivation for every International Project Engineering (IP) student.
In the course of the sixth-semester lecture "Project Seminar", every IP student can apply to a certain role in the project organisation.
Being a proud member of the selected IP Plane team is totally worth the two-and-a-half years waiting.

Quality and Documentation Manager
I was responsible for the quality assurance of the construction and first reporting instance to the project owner (our dean of studies) using :

- 8D Reporting -

- Design/Process FMEA -

Having been also in charge of the preparation of the flight acceptance by the Federal Aviation Association, I implemented a process landscape for the entire project. This "Process House" helps the teams to trace the entire construction process in order to validate the severe quality requirements.

There are three main reasons for my passion for this project:

1. Life or death responsibility :
This airplane is not an exposition model. This airplane is not built to be stored in a hangar. This airplane has been flown on October, 6th 2018 by our Dean of Studies, Prof. Dr. Brune. As initiator of this studying program and as well this project, he trusted students at the sake of his own life. Therefore, each and every student committed to quality and meticulous rigor in his work.

2. The "team experience" :
Sharing a common goal and working in an engaged project team; taking collectively the additional step in order to meet severe requirements; feeling the engagement of the entire project team was outstanding. Often university projects do either not engage students or remain only theoretical. However, this project made it possible to experience a real-life situation containing all constraints of an industrial engineering project. We learned a lot about industrial procedures and project management by actively working on it. Tackling problems and finding solutions collectively was a great experience.

3. "Wall of Fame" :
Since the beginning of this project in 2012, every project member is perpetuated on the "Wall of Fame". For me, having my picture hanging at this wall is a sign for the team effort we invested to create something, that will last. Something that will remain after we already left. This makes me proud.
